MIDDLESEX SLIDE TO NARROW DEFEAT IN BALCOMBE REGIONAL SEMIS

On Sunday 25th June Middlesex travelled to Bromley BC to take part in the Regional Finals of the Balcombe Trophy Competition. The draw for the Semi Finals pitted Middlesex against Surrey BA and with both sides having enjoyed impressive away victories in the 1st round a tough, tight game was envisaged.

On a surprisingly heavy and tricky Bromley Green Middlesex started well but soon slipped behind.  The Rink of Glen Adams (Hendon), Barry Wheeler (West Ealing), Chris Harris and Tony Waller (both Ladygate) played well but lady luck was not shining on them with results in the head regularly not going their way. On the other rink Kevin Ward (Broomfield), Chris Dunkley (Poplar), Steve Stockley (Parsons Green) and Perry Cook (Poplar) were also playing well but just could not get onto the score board so that their effort was reflected in shots! The scorecards are reproduced below to show how the game flowed.

Half way through the game looked to be slipping away rather too comfortably but 12 shots across the 16th and 17th ends turned the game on its head and it looked like Middlesex may come back and win. Right up until the last end Middlesex had chances but things were not going their way and sadly it was not to be as they lost by 3 shots.

President Andy Docker and Team Manager Ray Fortune were pleased with the performance on the day and appreciative of the fact that on another day the side could have just as easily won as lost.

In the days other Semi Berkshire BA comfortably saw off the Isle of Wight. Later in the days regional final Berkshire had another seemingly comfortable win to qualify for Leamington. The players would like to thank all those who travelled to Bromley to support the side.
