Docker hits treble top but Leicestershire win friendly

It was a glorious summers’ afternoon at Winchmore Hill BC when Middlesex met Leicestershire BA in last weeks’ friendly.

President Andy Docker clearly seems to have worked a winning formula for his rink selection as he returned his 3rd consecutive top rink. Alongside Eric Pelling (Selbourne / County Coach), Gary Moore (Bush Hill Park) & David Vine (Wealdstone) he returned a 27-15 victory.

One member of the rink, in front of the County coach, momentarily forgot which circle goes on the inside and bowled one of them overly tight bowls that gets you ridiculed, especially if you do it on the rink next to the press secretary. Don’t worry David your secret’s safe with me and everyone else reading this!

Middlesex actually won on 3 rinks with Ken Pheasant (Holtwhites), Lionel Reisman (Winchmore Hill), Roger Watkinson (Broomfield) & Andy Knott (Masonian / Competition Secretary) winning by 8 and Peter Hicks (Edmonton), Jim Prime (Selbourne), Tommy Lawford (Broomfield) & Tony Waller (Ladygate) by 2. Sadly though these wins could not make up for the losses and Middlesex lost the overall game 118-122.

After the game the players settled down to the usual excellent meal served up by Winchmore Hill, then during the speeches host club member Michael Sibthorpe (pictured) was presented with his County Badge.

Next up for the friendly squad, on May 31st, is one of the most popular trips of the season when they head south to Old Southampton BC for the game against the Isle of Wight BA. This will be the 4th season a neutral venue has been used for this game and Middlesex currently lead 2 games to 1 including last season’s 50 shot mauling of the Islanders.
