This Saturday, July 8th, sees the 3rd and final round of group games in this yearís Middleton Cup with Middlesex making the trip south to Atherley BC, in Southampton, to face Hampshire BA and group leaders Isle of Wight BA travelling to Iver Heath BC to face Buckinghamshire BA.

Sadly Middlesex travel knowing that their campaign for 2017 is already over and that they simply have personal pride left to play for.

4 Changes from the Isle of Wight match have been made with Kevin Ward (Broomfield), Alan Harman (Bounds Green), Ernie Rudston (Holtwhites) and Paul Fuller (Harefield Hospital) coming in for Ashley Tanner, Norman Worley, Paul Cater and Barry Wheeler respectively.

Middlesex have clearly had an unexpectedly disappointing campaign with narrow defeats to both Buckinghamshire and the Isle of Wight but the nucleus of the side is strong and with the right tweaking for 2018 could still do well. This season they can still have an influence on how the group finishes and will without doubt be up for the challenge of finishing the group stage with a good win.

Hampshire, for their part, know that a big win coupled with a tight split of the points in the other game could see them sneak through as group winners.

Isle of Wight travel knowing any win guarantees them the group. A 10-12 defeat sees Hampshire needing a 22-0 win.

Buckinghamshire need a minimum 17-5 win to overhaul Isle of Wight and then have to hope Hampshire do not win by more than them.

The maths goes on from there!!

This Saturday also sees Ron LeLeux (Rosedale Park), a long term fixture in the squad, play his final Middleton game before he moves away this close season.

Itís been a couple of years since the sides last met in the Middleton but Middlesex can look back on good wins in 2013 and 2012 for added encouragement.

With the forecast set fair, if you fancy a day out why not follow the side and enjoy a great afternoons bowling supporting the boys. Can we send Ron on his way with a farewell win?

Report to follow.
